I bought this book years ago when I adopted Greta. Greta came from the mean streets of Fayetteville, so she had developed some anti-social behaviors towards people and especially towards other animals. Learning about and understanding her needs went a long way into helping us develop a good relationship. I learned how to give her what she really wanted and show that I loved her the way SHE wanted to be loved. In return, she didn’t bite me.
This is a very comprehensive book on living with a cat. As cat people know, we don’t “own” our cats! It starts with choosing a cat, basic medical information, including how to tell if your cat is sick and how to choose your vet (uhm, I recommend me:) There are chapters for kitten-proofing and setting up your home to meet your cat’s needs. There are chapters on playing safely with your cat so they can express their natural instincts for hunting, as well as training your cat to perform all sorts of tricks.
Even if you’ve had cats in your life for years, I guarantee you’ll learn a lot from this book.
